We are proud to announce that Rhodes Park School is officially the home of the ISAZ U19 Basketball National Champions! The RPS U19 Basketball Boys team backed up their recent victory at the ISAZ U19 Basketball Regional Qualifiers with another remarkable triumph, bringing home the coveted national trophy. In true RPS style, the team displayed outstanding teamwork, resilience, and composure under pressure, marking yet another proud milestone in our school’s history.
This victory crowns the boys as two-time ISAZ U19 Basketball National Champions, following their initial championship win 11 years ago in 2013. The journey to victory was filled with thrilling moments: in their opening game, the team dominated Nchanga Trust with a score of 16–6. They faced a setback in game two, narrowly losing to ISL 17–20. However, they bounced back with determination in a do-or-die game three, overcoming Mpelembe 24–20 to emerge as Group A winners and secure a spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, RPS made a bold statement, outplaying Chengelo 29–17 in a highly entertaining game. The final matchup was a tense rematch against ISL, with our boys eager to prove that their Regional Qualifiers victory was no fluke. Demonstrating tactical discipline, skill, and unwavering spirit, RPS triumphed 22–19 in a thrilling finish, cementing their place as national champions.
Our historic team included talented players Michael Nyangu, Temi Akimboyode, Alinani Simukai, Twange Kalokoni, Moses Chishimba, Michael Chitobolo, Choolwe Sibajene, Nathaniel Nyirenda, Ishaan Abraham, Thokozani Chirwa, and Lucus Octavia. The team was expertly led by Coach Lincoln Noah Kabwe, with valuable support from assistant coach Joshua Lungu, an RPS alumnus from the Class of 2023.
Congratulations to our incredible champions for bringing the trophy home and for making RPS proud!
