Imagine opening a box and finding not just books, but thousands of invitations: to ask a question, discover a new idea or become absorbed in a story. Now imagine that moment repeated across every section of our school.
Rhodes Park School has restocked its Library with a remarkable 10,508 books through Books to Africa. From our youngest learners at the Early Learning Centre to our secondary students, their arrival creates exciting possibilities for reading and learning across the school.
The books received have been allocated as follows: 2,350 for the Early Learning Centre, 2,229 for JM Campus, 3,058 for Sibweni Campus and 2,871 for the Secondary Section. Each section now has an opportunity to bring more books into the hands of its learners.
For a young child, a book can begin with the delight of turning a page and noticing something new. For an older learner, it may spark a question worth investigating, introduce an unfamiliar perspective or offer a welcome moment of quiet during a demanding school term. That is the beauty of these new books: their value will be discovered one reader and one book at a time.
The arrival of these books is especially meaningful as we celebrate reading across the school. Our hope is that learners will not only read more, but also talk about what they read, recommend books to friends and discover titles they might never have chosen before.
We thank Books to Africa for making this collection available to our school. The books represent far more than an impressive number. They are an investment in curiosity, imagination, and the lifelong habit of learning.
