From the open roads of Zambia to the vast landscapes of Namibia, our Grade 12 learners set off on a journey that was as much about discovery as it was about the destination.

For more than 25 years, the Grade 12 Namibia Educational Tour has been a much-anticipated part of the Rhodes Park School experience. For many of our learners, it is a chance to see a different side of the world, experience a new culture and create memories together as they approach the end of their secondary school journey.

The adventure began on the road, as the group travelled south and crossed the border into Namibia. Along the way, familiar surroundings gave way to new landscapes, wider horizons and the excitement of discovering what lay ahead.

One of the highlights was the spectacular Dune 7 at Walvis Bay, where the sheer scale of the Namibian desert made for an unforgettable experience. The learners also visited the Cape Fur Seal Colony, experiencing one of the country’s remarkable coastal environments first-hand.

The tour also offered plenty of opportunities to connect classroom learning with the real world. Visits to Namport and the University of Namibia gave learners an insight into the country’s economy, education and future opportunities, while visits to Heroes’ Acre and the Parliament of Namibia provided a closer look at Namibia’s history and national identity.

But some of the most memorable moments happened between the scheduled visits. The long drives, shared experiences, new friendships and time spent exploring together gave the learners the chance to become more independent, take responsibility and enjoy one another’s company outside the classroom.

With their final school year drawing to a close, the Namibia Educational Tour was more than simply another trip. It was a chance for our Grade 12 learners to pause, explore, experience something new and enjoy one of the final adventures of their school years together.

From desert dunes and the Atlantic coast to new places, new perspectives and plenty of laughter along the way, Namibia gave our learners a journey worth remembering.
