What happens when young performers exchange their usual rehearsal spaces for an international learning experience? For members of the Rhodes Park School Performing Arts and Music Clubs, the answer unfolded during an unforgettable eight-day tour of Cape Town, South Africa.
From 30 August to 6 September 2026, our learners participated in a Musical Boot Camp at the School of Rock in Devonbosch, Stellenbosch, immersing themselves in music, performance and creative collaboration.
Through professional masterclasses, the learners explored performance techniques, stage presentation and musical teamwork. They were challenged to listen closely, communicate clearly and contribute confidently, discovering that a successful performance depends not only on individual talent but also on discipline and cooperation.
The boot camp culminated in a final performance and certificate presentation. Stepping onto the stage gave our learners the opportunity to demonstrate what they had developed through days of instruction, practice and collaboration. Their certificates marked more than participation; they represented growth, courage and a willingness to learn in an unfamiliar environment.
The experience extended beyond the rehearsal room. At Stellenbosch University, learners gained a glimpse of opportunities in higher education and the performing arts. A visit to Robben Island brought South Africa’s history into focus, while Table Mountain offered a breathtaking encounter with one of the country’s most recognisable natural landmarks.
A tour of Cape Town and time at the vibrant V&A Waterfront added further excitement to the journey. Each destination offered something different, from history and reflection to natural beauty and cultural discovery.
Our learners returned home with certificates, memories and stories worth sharing. More importantly, they gained valuable experience in teamwork, creative expression and self-confidence, along with a deeper appreciation of the commitment required to develop their talents.
The final note may have faded, but the lessons of Cape Town will continue to resonate in every rehearsal, performance and new creative challenge that lies ahead.
